Models and re-creations of real-life natural phenomena and human activities abound in the Discovery Center Museum, found in areas such as "Amusement Park Science," where children can explore the intricate engineering of roller coasters, and "Power House," with displays on magnetism and electricity. An expansive outdoor play area gives kids a place to burn off energy while learning about various scientific principles, like friction and the theory behind levers and pulleys; it also has a water play area and a hands-on dinosaur dig. Just beside the center, which is located on the west bank of the Rock River, is the Rockford Art Museum; the family-friendly Burpee Museum of Natural History is situated directly to the north.
Open Mon. - Sat. 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Sun. noon - 5:00 p.m.
Adults $5; Children $4; Children under 2 are free.
